The March 27, 2025 Session at 1 p.m. GMT by the Technical Secretariat gathered prestigious speakers such as Mr. Alastair Merrill: Managing Director of Merrill Solutions Ltd who was the Keynote Speaker, Mr. Tadesse Kebede Mamo, Senior Special Advisor, Public Financial Management (PFM) Reform, Public Procurement Service of Ethiopia (EU-Supported), Mr. Francis Ayitey, Deputy Director of Policy, Planning & Research of Public Procurement Authority of Ghana and Mr. Dennis Kwame Simba, Director General, PPRA Tanzania for country case presentations from, respectively Ethiopia, Ghana and Tanzania.

Driving environmental and social impact through innovative technologies

In his presentation, he invited bringing sustainable procurement out of the shadows from a technical, back-office compliance function to a strategic enabler of policy development and public service delivery. The audience got to know the Scottish model of procurement, especially about spending wisely to deliver value beyond savings with three key questions to help spend wisely. He touched some other but very important aspects such as the importance of management information, the importance of data and data analytics and AI, just to name few.

The Technical Secretariat of the African Public Procurement Network (APPN) organized on March 27, 2025 at 1 p.m. GMT a session on the theme “Sustainable Procurement:
Driving environmental and social impact through innovative technologies
” and, Deputy Director of Policy, Planning & Research of Public Procurement Authority of Ghana was one of the presenters for country cases.

Mr. Francis Ayitey invited the participants to know about procurement laws and amendment before having a look at sustainable procurement and its policy statement. He also touched the guiding principles of sustainable public procurement and the outcome of the sustainable procurement policy before allowing the audience to know a bit more about the new policies to support sustainable public procurement’s implementation.

Sustainable Procurement: Driving environmental and social impact through innovative technologies” was the theme of the session organized on March 27, 2025 at 1 p.m. GMT by the Technical Secretariat of the African Public Procurement Network (APPN). The Technical Secretariat had the honor to have Mr. Dennis Kwame Simba, the Director General, PPRA Tanzania.

In the presentation by Mr. Dennis Kwame Simba, we got to know the definition of public procurement as the most impactful element in governance, ensuring resources are mobilized and allocated efficiently, transparently, and responsibly. He defined as well sustainable public procurement and let people know of its implementation through legal and policy framework with clear and strong examples related to that.

Being of the speakers during of the session on March 27, 2025 at 1 p.m. GMT, organized by the Technical Secretariat of the African Public Procurement Network (APPN) on the theme “Sustainable Procurement: Driving environmental and social impact through innovative technologies”, Mr. Tadesse Kebede, Senior Special Advisor, Public Financial Management (PFM) Reform, Public Procurement Service of Ethiopia (EU-Supported), centered his presentation on six points, namely, Consultancy Background, Overview of SDGs and Implementations in Ethiopia, Sustainable Public Procurement, Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), Competitiveness of the Ethiopian Supply Community (ESC) and Implementation Guide. Sustainable Public Procurement Background in Ethiopia arises from the 2019 OECD Methodology for Assessing Procurement Systems [MAPS], which identified strengths and areas of improvement at the federal and regional levels of Ethiopia’s public procurement and shows presence of legal, regulatory, institutional, and anticorruption frameworks that guides public procurements in the country. However sustainable procurement lacks focused.
